We spent this year hitting the streets and doing strategy sessions with many of you!
I am in complete awe of the vast talent, ambition and energy that our clients and subscribers have for your business and for the communities that you serve. Your creativity and your drive are what makes us get up in the morning and I couldn’t be more proud to be a sounding board, confidant and business resource for your great ideas!
Something that’s been on my mind this year has been this struggle with “perfection.” This is not a new thing, as we all know, but as business owners it can be paralyzing. The thing is, you, your idea or your next strategic move DOESN’T NEED TO BE PERFECT in order to happen.
Honestly, I think that perfect is b o r i n g .
This concept is what inspired a blog post earlier this year about Stock Photos.
When I visit a companies social media account and see all stock photos, it feels cold. It feels fake or posed. It definitely doesn’t help me learn anything about the culture or mission of that company and if anything it leaves me wondering… what are they hiding?
Please don’t think that displaying this “perfect” image is helping you – people want to connect with YOU. They like seeing behind the scenes, they like hearing you and your clients true perspective.
Authentic is way better than perfect.
You have so much to offer this world, which is why you started your own company. Don’t be afraid to show your true self. There is only one you and the world is waiting.
If you’re looking for other ideas to replace your stock photos – here are a few of our favorites:
- Repost a photo and give credit (obvi) to another brand that inspires you
- Share inspirational quotes
- Mix in humor
- Share statistics
- Post candids
- Yes, still business focused, but you in your natural element maybe or in a casual client meeting.
Don’t be afraid to show the heart of your brand to others — not just the edited version.
