[163] How to Find Trends & Talk to Your Clients About Them! 💵🪩

Hey Successful Hair Stylists! This training is a little more fun and refreshing! We’re going to focus on creating a better guest experience by talking about trends!

This is for you if…

  • You tend to feel behind the trends and just want to know what’s going on

  • Your clients tend to know more about trends and ask you for things you haven’t heard about

  • You want to build better loyalty and increase your avg ticket by keeping your clients CURRENT

Why trends are important

  • Show you’re an expert in the industry

  • Give you the reputation of FUN and FRESH

  • Build trust with your clients that you’re going to keep them from looking outdated!

The DEATH WISH for any hair stylists is to be associated with out of date looks. And this varies for every single area. For example, I just moved from Tampa, FL to Richmond, VA. In Tampa, contouring your makeup with liquid concealers/foundations has already piqued and now died down - people have been switching back to softer looks with powder finishes. In Richmond, though, contouring is just now taking off! Every event I go to, I hear women talking about practicing their contour and sharing their tips. So keep this in mind as you’re researching and recommending trends to your clients!

Places to find current trends:

  • teen vogue

  • Stylecaster

  • Psbeauty pop sugar beauty

  • Whowhatwear

  • Complex style

  • Behindthechair

  • Thetease

  • Red carpets

How to talk to clients about current trends and updates - biggest thing to remember is that it's not about just taking a look and putting it on someone, it's about taking INSPIRATION and adding a trending element.

  • Get excited about a new “placement” for them (a lot of times people hear change and they think it’s going to be an extreme and dramatic makeover).

  • Show them pictures and the part of the picture you think will work for them.

  • Sometimes these tweaks are NO EXTRA COST they are just a change in foil pattern. Sometimes it will be an upgrade with lowlights, root smudge, face framing foils, etc.

  • Different styling techniques. From Utah curls (banana curls) to LA waves (wrapped, fluffy).

  • Find their celebrity look alike to help you communicate.

  • Make it FUN!  They’ll feel nervous if YOU’RE nervous, they’ll be awkward if YOU’RE awkward, they’ll say no if you want them to say no!
