Hey Successful Hair Stylists!

This week we’re talking all about NON-Instagram apps for hairstylists to get new clients!

Keep scrolling for the full video!

Whether you want to attract additional clients or you’re just plain sick of being a content creator - knowing the apps on the market that can bring you clients organically (and without you being a part-time social media manager) can be super helpful!**

We’re going to talk about…

  • Google-My-Business

  • Yelp

  • Marketplace Model Apps (For example… Booksy and Styleseat)

  • Hyperlocal Apps (For example… Nextdoor)

Disclaimer** All of these apps below CAN bring in new clients - but they put your growth completely in other peoples hands. Other people searching for you. Other people finding your page and liking it. Competitors not showing up higher in the search ranking than you. The only way to have full control over your growth, is through using Instagram and Facebook! I can show you how to do that here!

GOOGLE MY BUSINESS

Google My Business is one of the most popular ways for local business to get seen in local search results. Here is a little overview of the data- Google runs 99,000 searches per second. And the average person uses Google search 3-4x each and every day.** It makes sense to have a place to show up in the results - especially because a Google My Business listing is completely FREE to set up and maintain. The downside is that larger salons will dominate the space with reviews and how long their profiles have been active - this makes it really hard for independent stylists to get visibility and actually rank on their algorithm.

DO:

  • Have your business claimed on the app

  • Ask your clients to copy and paste their reviews that are other places onto google

  • Fill out your profile completely

  • Repurpose content whenever you can on this platform including your before/after posts

  • Link to where you want to be booking people - is it your booking site, website, your waitlist form, etc.

YELP

There are many >>VALID<< critiques of Yelp in the professional beauty industry. However, I do believe that Yelp has a place in your online strategy as an independent stylist. Google and Apple are competitors, and so iPhone tries to promote Apple maps (instead of Google Maps) as much as possible. Apple maps populates search results with data compiled from YELP!

Apple maps uses Yelp in three different ways: Yelp reviews and ratings, photos and business information are listed on Apple maps business listings.***

On top of this, here are some interesting statistics to consider before counting this platform out: Yelp attracts 92 million mobile users every month. 4/5 Yelp users are ready to buy when visiting a Yelp page.****

DO:

  • Have your business claimed on the app

  • Ask your clients to copy and paste their reviews that are other places onto yelp

  • Fill out your profile completely

  • Ask to placed on a “do not call” list when YELP calls you asking for you to pay for your business on their platform

DON’T:

  • Pay for ads or a paid business account

MARKETPLACE MODEL - BOOKSY, STYLESEAT

Marketplace Model Apps grow their platforms with clients looking for services. Using these sites as your booking platform gives you the added benefit of having your business shown to their customer base (without having to build your own)! Booksy has 38 million users with 380,000 pros using their booking platform to grow their business.*****

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • When you use the “boost” feature which promotes your business to local users on the platform, they take a 30% service commission off of the FIRST service with that client

  • You only pay for new clients that come in, vs traditional ads that you’re paying whether you get clients or not

HYPERLOCAL APPS - NEXTDOOR

Nextdoor is a social media app that connects people in certain zip codes. You can get to know your neighbors, discuss issues, promote events, etc.

PRO:

  • Can speak more directly to your local area

  • Free to create a business listing

  • Can add credibility because it’s such a “niche” user base

CON:

  • Only 13% of adults use this app - so I would say it depends on if this is popular in your city before investing too much time or energy into it
